It says childish right there in the image. So, if you are a child, it might be natural. Although, honestly, I've never really heard it (I have heard halfsies, though, which is listed as a synonym).
Fun_Push7168•
Yeah, it's cutesie, as you see by ( childish) but I wouldn't think twice if anyone said it.
gamermikejima•
Like the other commenters mentioned, a phrase like this is not appropriate in every context. It’s best used in casual conversations. Also, I think the hyponym listed on the page (halfsies) is more commonly used.
PerplexedBiped•
It would be in a relaxed context, and always with "go", for example:
Speaker A: "Hey that burger looks delicious"
Speaker B: "I'm not that hungry, wanna go splitsies/halvsies"
In my region, if I for example was on a date and someone wanted to split the check evenly (when you are paying for the food at the end of the meal), you might say "go dutch".
Bunnytob•
*Splitsies* definitely sounds to me like something you'd *go* rather than *do* \- not that I consciously remember ever hearing it. I personally would consider *do splitsies* to sound un-natural.
roundeking•
I would understand what it means, but I feel like most people I know would just say “We can split it”
Decent_Cow•
I've never heard this, only "halfsies".
Dilettantest•
Splitsies- never heard it.
Halfsies - only use it if you’re a young teenage girl. This term is very cutesy, very twee.
“Let’s split the check “
TRFKTA•
I would never say ‘splitsies’ or ‘halfsies’ as this can come across as childish.
It’d be more common to say ‘shall we split the bill?’ or ‘shall we go halves?’
jay_altair•
I have heard and might say "go halvesies"
OceanPoet87•
It makes me think of a teenager to be honest. Coming from a non speaker it probably will sound fake.
ekagekao•
Really depends on who you're speaking to. That's an extremely casual way of saying it, but it definitely works when talking to a friend or something. I wouldn't suggest saying that in a formal context.
Saddlebag043•
Yeah, sounds natural to me. Due to the casual language, it may depend on context for when you’d want to use it.
AugustWesterberg•
Unless you’re a 12 yo child, you shouldn’t really talk like this.
Infinite_Card7820•
very cutesy way of saying it yeah. Another cutesy way I've used is going halvesies.
PM_ME_DBZA_QUOTES•
I hear the listed hyponym "halfsies" much more often. I'm actually not sure I've ever heard "splitsies" at all
Temporary-Soil8680•
I would not recomend adding that phrase to your diction. Yould be better of using phrases like.
"Will we spilt it? "(the bill)
"Will we share it?" (some food)
"Will we go Dutch?" (Share the bill evenly, regardless of who ordered what)
haevow•
It’s very valley girl. If you want to always talk like a californian TikTok influencer or a nepo baby , it will sound natural
SpaceCadet_Cat•
We say go halvies in Australia. Splitsies sounds weird but not problematic
BoringBich•
I've heard *halfsies* before, never heard splitsies.
It's very unprofessional but could be used with Friends
Stepjam•
It's a bit cutesy, but otherwise natural.
gracilenta•
American here. never heard of “splitsies”, though because i am familiar with the term “halfsies”, i wouldn’t think too much of it and probably assume it’s a regional thing.
Flimsy_Ginger•
I personally wouldn't say "we can do splitsies" but I don't think there's technically anything wrong since it's a cute or friendly way of saying "we can split the bill if you want."
Over-Recognition4789•
I’m shocked at the number of people who have never heard splitsies! It sounds just as natural to me as halvsies and would be used in the same contexts. I’m from the American Midwest. I would be absolutely tickled if an English learner said this to me :)
Agreeable_Sorbet_686•
No. "We can go half," "We can split it." No "splitsies."
ThePikachufan1•
It does sound natural but it's even more casual than I would speak even with friends. I usually say "wanna split". Splitsies sounds like something said by teenagers or children.
Toal_ngCe•
Yeah that's totally normal
saltandpomp•
R u kidding me? Splitsies is what you do with your significant other as a teenager or young adult and you go halfsies on a pizza delivery if ya need it that way after hours at the after-party or rather after the hotel lobby and after-party order the, the tha pizza. Correct?
snakebap•
It sounds very cute and infantil. Generally I would say "let's split the bill/check" or "do you want to split the bill/check?" to sound less forward/more backfooted.
etymglish•
I have never heard of the word "splitsies" in my life. This is literally the first time I've ever seen it. I've seen people say "halfsies," but never "splitsies." Also, I've never seen a man say "halfsies," it's more of a teen/20s girl thing.
Even-Breakfast-8715•
“Let’s go Dutch” more common in my ideolect
Sad_Kaleidoscope894•
Very natural and cutesy
ThreeFourTen•
"Do you want to go halves?" would be the most natural form, for me.
I've literally never heard 'splitsies,' but the meaning was still obvious to me, so... it's natural enough, imo.
quillb•
it’s a pretty weird word and rarely used (halfsies is much more common), but nobody would think twice if they heard it
PaleMeet9040•
It’s already kind of a funny word honestly when you use it you’re almost expected to break grammar rules for the sake of humour. Either just say “splitsies?” Or “we can splitsies it😁” or even just “we can splitsies😁”
