Th**a**n is for comp**a**ring. I just noticed that they both have an "a" as I was writing it, so I decided to bold them. They are even both pronounced the same (At least in my dialect)
VladHawk•
Of course "than" is correct here. But maybe the third person on screen meant something like, "Men are naturally smarter, and then come women."
Gravbar•
As written, it should be "than" but if they're deleting from the left
First men are naturally smarter, then women
could work. They almost certainly didn't mean that though.
deusmechina•
You could use “then” if you made the sentence into an ordered list: “In ranking human intelligence, men are first, then women.”
zebostoneleigh•
than is correct
Pielacine•
It's woman
resfeberjoder34•
Than.
Then is for orders.
First, go to reddit. Then, look for English language. Lastly, post comment for help.
awksomepenguin•
"Then" indicates an order. A, then B. "Than" is making a comparison. A is more than B.

It is being used comparatively so “Than” is correct.

It's than. "Than" is used for making comparisons ("She read more often **than** him"), while "then" is used for describing sequences of events and timing ("**Then**, she went home").

It's than. Than refers to comparisons, then refers to passage of time.
Far-Fortune-8381•
than is for comparing things
shelaborating•
than for comparison and then means after that/or later
SnooDonuts6494•
Neither, because it's factually incorrect.
But grammar-wise, it should be "than".

PersonalityTall2790•
If anyone is confused about how to use "then" and "than"
Whats important to note is this.
1. Then is used for time whereas than is used for comparing.
2. Then is an adverb/adjective whereas than is a conjunction/preposition
3. They are literally completely different words that have completely different linguistic categories. Its like aaking if the word "beautiful" can be used in the same place as the word "from". It makes no sense at all.
Icy-Whale-2253•
It’s than. Then is a time frame.

"Then" is what is to come, "Than" is to compare

“than” compares two things
“then” describes series of events

My little "hack" for this is that I connect the word "then" with "after", they both have E in it and "after" tells you that it means later.. And "than" is the other variant :)) hope this helps
Disastrous_Leader_89•
Then continues a thought. Than is a comparing word.
My friend and I went to the beach, then we thought about lunch.

Ok then, let’s go to McDonald’s

Than = comparison. "This is greater than that."
Then = passage of time. "Now and then."

Then = chronological emphasis (en pronounced like End or Enter)
Than = direct comparison emphasis (an pronounced like Antique or Ant)

Dharak_Colossus•
"Than" is correct here. If you are making a comparison between two things, you use than. E.g: "Ten is greater THAN four."
"Then" refers to a sequence of events. E.g: "I will eat my dinner THEN take a shower"

Men are naturally smarter, then women.
It’s just missing a comma.

Man here! The correct spelling is "than".
Incidentally, I believe women are generally better than men at grammar. I'm one of the rare exceptions where I'm both male AND better than the majority of people when it comes to grammar. That said, there are women and men that are far better than me at grammar.

As originally written, it should be “than”. I read the second correction (back to “then”) as making it read “men are naturally smarter[,] then women [are the smartest]”, which is certainly awkward, but is a way of reading it with “then”
quexxify•
funny enough these both could be right in certain contexts. obviously it was meant to be written as "than", but it could also be rewritten as "Men are naturally smarter, then women." unless im mistaken and completely wrong, that sounds right to me

The correct form in this context is “than.” Generally, “than” is used for comparisons and “then” is used when describing a sequence of events.
Edit: quotation marks for clarity

"Than" is for comparing
This compared to that (more or less)
More than, less than
"Then" is for telling the orders of what happened
This then that
Or at least that's how I understood it

Beautiful joke. It shows a man making a comment, using the incorrect word, and a woman correcting it (at least that is how I'm interrupting it). To the extent of someone else, another man possibly, trying to correct her for correcting him with the wrong word, proving the statement to be false (with men NOT being smarter than women). LMAO!
Kitchen-Register•
If it was written “… smarter, then women, …” it might be correct but here it’s almost certainly than.

well this is actually interesting because technically men and women have the same mean average intelligence respectively, but if you graph it properly you can see that women tend way more to be average or close to average, meaning less women are highly intelligent, but also less women are just plain stupid (on the graph the shape is like an "n" where the y axis is population and the x axis is IQ). And men are more of a "u" shape, tending to be either quite smart or quite stupid. Of course, this is just statistics, so it's definitely possible to have a smart or dumb person of either gender.
SandSerpentHiss•

TheUnspeakableh•
Then is used for consecutive events. So "Men are smarter then women" would mean that the position switched at some point and women are smarter, now.
Than is used for comparison. So Men > Women. This is what the original-original poster, the one who made the reply in the bubble in the image, wrongly meant and incorrectly said.
