Is this insult powerful in English?

Is this insult powerful in English?

xJapiu
Hello guys, so I think I've already got a decent level of English, but I want to take my skills to the next level. I've been playing League of Legends recently and I've noticed an increase of my win/lose ratio when I manage to decimate my enemy's mindset. I am a man of culture so I find boring the mainstreams ones like: motherfucker or son of a bitch. Therefore I've been innovating a bit in this beautiful craft. Could you please tell me if saying: "Shut that well of shit you got as mouth" sounds impactful for you? Does it properly convey the meaning? Thank you in advance!

It sounds stilted I'm afraid, if I read that, and I was an immature online teenager, I'd probably assume the person typing it wasn't that familiar with English

Most insults are impactful unless they're tailored to the specific person. You'd have to know something about them, or in the case of a video game, something about how they play. Being LoL, something like "maybe you'd play better if you stopped staring at your character's ass" would be better.
Quirky_Property_1713•
No, it’s not grammatically correct and it sounds immature (although frankly, *any* kind of online trash talk makes you sound like a child). The less complex and flowery, the better. Innovation in swearing is for fun and comedy, not really for emotional impact.

My first thought would be that this person is not a native speaker
ShakeWeightMyDick•
The “you got as mouth” part is not correct English, so it removes the impact of the insult because you sound like you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Allie614032•
No, it doesn’t sound impactful to me.
UrdnotCum•
Nothing said via the internet is impactful, but feel free to use that.
Grandemestizo•
I’d reword it. Maybe “shut your mouth before even more shit falls out”.
Dorianscale•
It’s kind of cringey to be honest. It sounds like someone trying to impersonate a romance novel vampire.

It sounds like an ESL student trying to use natural English, but failing. Sorry, but swearing convincingly is one of the most difficult parts of English to learn. In the scenario you've described, I would almost certainly just say STFU. If I really wanted to be more creative, my response would depend on my intention, and the exact situation. I might employ passive-agression and/or sarcasm. "You have to be 13 to play here", "Have you sought help for your mental health issues?", "are you typing with your face?" Cockwomble, twat, pillock, knobhead.

Of course this dude plays fucking LoL. Are you a “man of culture” or do you play league of legends? You gotta pick one buddy.
groszgergely09•
Not only the insult, but your entire post and "reasoning" is also horribly cringe and sounds like something by a 10 year old.

"I'm a man of culture" is one of the funniest things I've read in this subreddit.

I think "shut your shit well of a mouth" rolls off the tongue better lol
Yoshiiuw•
just use Spanish insults. Way better than English ones XD
brokebackzac•
"stop flapping your cum suckers" is still uncommon enough to catch someone off guard, but more clear. That said, I don't condone using colorful insults online with strangers, especially when using it as you describe it. It's one thing between friends when you're doing it in jest, it's just bullying when doing it online and will lead to you getting banned.

The best thing you can do with an insult is be unique, since everyone has already heard all the classics a million times, and I think you’ve definitely hit the mark on that. These other people don’t understand the true art of the insult, the one you suggested was great and I intend to add it to my insult list. While it’s not perfectly grammatical, I think that adds to the charm. I have fun listening to the insults ESL speakers come up with.

Honest advice: watch Dexter and get inspo from Debra's potty mouth.

My best advice is to stop playing league 🫡

Nah. That's just juvenile. Very cringe. They'd probably laugh at you with that.

It kinda sounds like when people in London purposefully say a really fancy word to sound funny. I think it’s just a London thing but we like to put in words like “ostentatiously” or “inquisitorially” without even knowing what it means, in a ridiculous accent, but it definitely isn’t insulting, it’s something you say to make ppl laugh (and usually only said in secondary schools)
queerkidxx•
It sounds fine. I kinda feel like generic insults don’t mean much? Like if you actually wanted to provoke any sort of emotional reaction from me you need to know me well enough to actually insult me as a person. Some random dude online shouting generic insults to me feels like nothing because he knows literally nothing about me. I’d only really be insulted if you could learn something personal about me.
IslandWarning1377•
Not the best insult, but love this question!!
WhiteMonsterEnjoyer2•
It doesn’t seem natural
glitchy_45-•
You could change the “got as” to “have as a” I think personally id be baffled at the creativity though.
divinelyshpongled•
I’d just go with “get ruined tard factories” or sth like “lolz u guys blow donkeys” and enjoy the win
sayitwithmeagain•
am i the only one that loves this insult?
ClaraFrog•
it should be "...you have for a mouth" However the colloquial would just be "shut your hole." which is insulting because it is unclear which "hole" you are referring to them as speaking out of.
SectionRatio•
Sorry no, it sounds kind of silly.
Desperate_Owl_594•
your grammar of "shut up that [whatever] of a mouth up" is good. Make sure you say "of a mouth" not of mouth. You can also substitute mouth but that might not work with what you're trying to do. I wouldn't find it very insulting tho.
Far-Fortune-8381•
we don’t really use the word well to mean anything other than water so well of shit kind of makes me stop and think for a second. it still makes sense though but an insult shouldn’t leave someone going “what?” or the point of it is lost
Improvisable•
I'd probably laugh rather than be insulted
Relevant-Bobcat-2016•
It's likely to provoke laughter rather than be insulting. It just sounds like something from a US Western film and would never be used colloquially.
wickedseraph•
Respectfully, no. It’s stilted and grammatically incorrect.
Bob_Jaiden•
I implore you to terminate the malodorous verbal effluence discharging from that putrid cavity masquerading as your oral apparatus!
National_Work_7167•
Sounds kinda silly honestly. I'd laugh if I received that message
Jaives•
really wouldn't call that "powerful" or "impactful". a good insult leaves the listener dumbfounded or even applauding. that does neither.
zebostoneleigh•
I don’t understand what you’re saying. So the insult is lost.
Fizzabl•
Honestly after reading the insult a bunch of times, it took me ages to realise you meant a physical water well. Comes off as a bit of a try-hard who failed. Like a little kid calling someone poo poo head If you wanted to make it a little more.. normal sounding I guess, sorry I can't think of a better way to phrase it, but you'd better off with something like >!"you're full of shit"!< \>!"shut your whore mouth"!< >!"shut your fucking mouth you pile of shit"!<Tbh I think using a 'well' was poor placement. I'm guessing in your native language it translates to a proper insult? If you wanna target somebody, then you gotta personalise it. And no, not yo mama jokes! Lol
webgruntzed•
"Shut that fountain of shit you call a mouth" would sound more natural and impressive.
kmoonster•
It's quick sensible. Whether it's powerful is entirely subjective, however, and not something I can easily quantify. It would be good "smack talk" at a minimum.
zebostoneleigh•
The best insults are unique to the person in the situation. See also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eebXanmfXwM Or also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1nYEH6EDwM

Trash talking is like improv, you can’t really prepare for when the moment presents itself. Online trash talking is usually funny in its absurdity, which I imagine would be hard for a nonnative speaker who doesn’t quite understand the language to that level. True trash talk meant to make someone mad usually has to be more personal and specific to the situation.
Mariusz87J•
The sentence sounds awkward and clumsy. It's like someone tried to invent a retort to some awesome insult and wasn't sure what to say back. I'd say "no u" is a better retort than this.
-Gavinz•
I would probably think you were a non-native English speaker
choobie-doobie•
you come off as an immature edge lord trying too hard to sound intelligent and clever the insult isn't effective either
elfinkel•
No, it’s not powerful, even if used in a grammatically correct way: “you’ve got for a mouth”. Some people honestly might not even know what a well is these days. And I don’t know about in other places, but in the U.S. people aren’t super impressed by people trying to sound like “a man of culture.” That kind of attitude is more likely to make people think you’re pretentious. As others have said, long flowery insults aren’t common here anymore

Sure it works, but dont be toxic to win. Decimate with gameplay instead of putting yourself in position for reports.
Maksilla•
No, please, just no.
TehGunagath•
It does indeed sound a bit unnatural, maybe too wordy. I'd revise it to make it more straightforward. On the one hand, some I love are: "You're a waste of oxygen" "You're the reason why shampoo bottles include warnings" "Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you?" "You confirm that light speed is faster than sound; you look brilliant until you open your mouth" On the other hand, toxic behaviour is not something good to promote, so procceed knowing that you probably will be reported multiple times. Toxic players are obnoxious to friends and foes alike.

bro i want your list of those so bad

If you want to tell someone to shut up, try instead: "Be silent, and keep your forked tongue behind your teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy words with a serving-man until the lightning falls." It's a Tolkien quote and probably one of the most elegant ways to tell someone to shut up, though it's recognizable as a quote. It's not everyday language.
