Referred to as the "Vulcan Salute," which is based off an Orthodox Jewish blessing. The hand gesture imitates the Hebrew letter "Shin" for El Shaddai. If there is a Hebrew word for the hand gesture, I do not know.

Live long and prosper. It's from Star Trek. It's a Vulcan greeting, which is an alien race in the show's lore.
StoicKerfuffle•
There's no single English understanding of that gesture, but by far the most common understanding would be "live long and prosper" from Star Trek, which is what Spock says when he does it.

One of the hand exercises my piano teacher used to make me do when I was a teenager. Then I had to move the ring finger toward the middle finger, or the little finger away from the ring finger, and any possible combination of moving just one finger without moving the others.
I'll be damned! I can still do it! Who knew?

It’s funny everybody is calling it the Vulcan Salute. It’s actually a [Cohenim Blessing, performed by Cohens to bless those before prayer in Temple.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priestly_Blessing) Leonard Nimoy, who himself was Jewish, [borrowed the gesture for use in the Star Trek Universe.](https://www.houseofgoodfortune.org/bonheur-blog/did-mr-spock-base-the-vulcan-salute-on-a-jewish-blessing)

which route we going with, sci-fi or irl? lol
sci-fi: Vulcan salute/wave; often used in conjunction with the phrase "Live long and prosper"
irl: a sort of sign language for the Hebrew letter Shin (looks suspiciously like the letter W in English, lol), which is considered a signature for God. It's often used by Rabbis with both hands when they're blessing things, and was repurposed by Leonard Nimoy for his character Spock in Star Trek, which is the aforementioned Vulcan salute.
And one of the things that he thought was always entertaining is that after seeing the show, all the fans would go around with that, effectively blessing each other. But the symbol shows up mirrored when using both hands, such that the Rabbi had one facing the person/people he was talking to, to bless them, and one facing himself, to bless him. No clue if it's still practiced to this day though, but it certainly was when Star Trek the original series first aired.
Oh, and some of the actors had to prep it ahead of time and leave it until they could get past the scene where they wave it around, cause they had trouble trying to make it and keep it, lol. But now I'm sure everyone's practiced it a few times and can replicate it easily enough xD

Well, it originally comes from Hebrew mysticism to represent the letter "shin"...Leonard Nimoy (who was Jewish) would peak when the Konahim would perform this gesture during ceremonies (because you are supposed to be bowed in prayer, not looking at him) and was suitably impressed by it.
Later, when a gesture was needed for greeting by Vulcans in Star Trek was needed - and since Vulcans generally don't touch people (for example, by shaking hands) - Nimoy suggested this: the Vulcan Salute.
And that is what most sci-fi fans know it by today. The Vulcan Salute.
JustAskingQuestionsL•
“Spock” is what most people would recognize it as. I have never heard “Vulcan Salute” in my life (that I can remember).

I've never seen Star Trek but I know it's from Spock.
Honestly I'd suggest avoiding hand gestures since they can be too easily misinterpreted as extremely aggressive or offensive.
