Is my accent really that noticeable? I’m probably in denial but please be super honest!

I am not a native speaker but I have lived in the US for a while. My guess would be USA. However, I can hear some Spanish influence. For example, you pronounced the /z/ sound in words like "is", "guys", "girls", and "because" as an /s/ sound. I have noticed this in folks who speak Spanish as their first language. I always pay attention to this because I also do it. I am a native Malayalam speaker and we don't have the /z/ sound in Malayalam and we replace it with an /s/ instead.

Mexican or hispanic american. Reminds me of my Puerto Rican friend who lived in Michigan for years.

From first impressions, your accent sounds west-coast Mexican-American to me.

I’m from Canada. I can’t pin down American accents to city/state in most cases. Maybe broadly stereotypical New England, New York, Boston, “southern”, Texas, etc, but they’d have to be pretty pronounced. You definitely sound American to me. I wouldn’t describe it as a thick accent. Nor would I say you sound raspy. You just sound young (under 30?), I’d assume from a city, and outside those “obvious” speech patterns. But whether that’s Miami or Denver or anywhere else is beyond me.

You sound like my friend from California. You also mentioned raspiness which is sometimes viewed as one of the features of a valley girl accent (I mean, it’s mostly referred to as vocal fry) So maybe you’re from LA? Personally, I find raspy voices adorable. No need to change anything about yourself ❤️
