A noun phrase is *kind* of clause. Not all clauses are noun phrases.
An idiom is a kind of expression with a colloquial, non-literal meaning. The whole of an idiom may be a noun phrase, or it may be a sentence or other kind of clause—it could be any kind of clause or collection of clauses.
In bold are some noun phrases; notice that a sentence may contain more than one noun phrase:
> **The men** are laughing.
> **A big dog** ran to **the store**.
> **The boy** wanted **me to smile**.
> **Sam** saw **[that] I was here**.
